Coppell eye test at our Clear Eye Center. As part of the eye examination our doctor uses our office’s state-of-the-art technology to detect and diagnose many serious eye diseases including those originating in other parts of the body.
One such eye disease that originates elsewhere and is discovered through a
Coppell eye exam is diabetic retinopathy, which is the manifestation of diabetes in the eyes. Diabetes is the body’s inability to regulate the amount of sugar in the blood. Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness in working aged adults. The inability to control the body’s blood sugar can cause excess retinal blood vessels to form or weaken existing vessels, which can begin to leak or even hemorrhage clouding and disrupting vision. Most of the time there are no symptoms of diabetic retinopathy until vision begins to be severely impacted. Our doctor diagnoses diabetic retinopathy during a dilated examination using an ophthalmoscope to view the macular and retina. If evidence of retinopathy exists our doctor may then use a fluorescein anglogram that injects dye into the arm vein to take digital photos of the retina or an optical coherence tomogram, which is a non-invasive test that takes digital photos of the cross-section of the eye.
If our
Coppell eye exam does detect diabetic retinopathy the treatment lies in controlling blood sugar in the body, as well as any high blood pressure or kidney problems, which is usually done through medication and diet. Our doctor will also use laser surgery to seal any leaking retina blood vessels and prevent further hemorrhaging. Our doctor will work with the patient’s diabetic specialist to provide monitoring and treatment.
