Visual impairments in children can lead to developmental delays, and affect your child’s overall quality of life at play and at school. Fortunately, with early detection and intervention, we can provide your child with the care they need to help ensure optimal vision development from the start. At the office of Clear Eye Care we utilize leading-edge approaches for the earliest diagnosis of pediatric eye conditions. We recommend bringing children in for comprehensive examinations periodically, to assess their vision and determine if corrective treatment is needed.
When your child is first born, their sense of sight is not yet fully developed. Over the first few months of life, your child’s brain will learn to process different visual information to form a picture of the world around them. Your child’s ability to see the world plays an important role in their physical, cognitive and social development, which is why it’s important to address visual impairments and conditions affecting the health of your child’s eye. According to the American Optometric Association, children should have their eyesight tested first when they are 6 months old, then again at 3 years old, and again before they begin school. After that, it’s recommended to bring your child in for checkups every 2 years, but visits may be more frequent depending on your child’s needs. During your child’s checkup, our office will perform a visual acuity test and evaluate the health of your child’s eyes. Our friendly professional staff will make sure your child feels comfortable and relaxed throughout their checkup. Early intervention with glasses, vision therapy and other methods of care can prevent problems from progressing into adulthood.
At the office of Clear Eye Care, we’re dedicated to providing the highest quality of skilled and compassionate care. For more information on our office and the many services that we provide, give us a call today.
